*Job Summary*
The Automation Specialist II is responsible for optimizing an organization's operational systems by reviewing, testing, repairing, and maintaining them, with a focus on computer networks, manufacturing processes, and related mechanisms. This role involves designing automation and control solutions for new equipment and upgrading existing systems, while managing small projects or multiple tasks within their area of expertise.*Duties*
  • Collaborate with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), various Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems, and industrial process instrumentation to support automated operations.
  • Planning and scheduling tasks to ensure timely execution.
  • Field wiring corrections and testing on various instrumentation.
  • Conducting basic calibration of instrumentation using appropriate tools and best practices.
  • Monitor, manage, and communicate with production teams regarding automation equipment issues and concerns.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance tasks on automation equipment and perform preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to schedule and implement automation solutions effectively.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Level 1 engineers and other team members.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines to meet organizational goals.
  • Validate automation software performance against established guidelines and standards.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematic drawings to determine automation component interfaces.
  • Demonstrate expertise in programming and configuration of DCS platforms (DeltaV preferred).
  • Focus on configuration, programming, installation, maintenance, testing, startup, upgrading, and troubleshooting of automation systems.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy new PLC programs and user interfaces ensuring they meet operational and safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Conduct and support rigorous testing and validation of new and modified control systems.
  • Analyze and optimize existing control systems to improve performance, efficiency, and reliability.
*Qualifications **Education*
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
*Experience *
  • 4-7 years of experience in automation systems design, programming, and maintenance, preferably in the pharmaceutical, medical devices, or manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, control wiring/panels, fieldbus communications and basic Ethernet networking.
  • Must be able to interpret/follow electrical drawings.
  • Proper and safe use of electrical hand tools.
*Skills*
  • Technical knowledge with proficient computer skills.
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish.
  • Proficient in writing in English with a focus on formal and technical contexts.
  • Must have strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of PLC, VB, SQL, SCADA, VFD, Operator interfaces, and Man-Machine interfaces.
  • Full mastery of PLC programming is not required, but the candidate should demonstrate growth and acceleration of learning in this skill.
  • Knowledge in reporting tools and data collection systems like databases and historians.
  • Knowledge of CGMPs, FDA regulations, and regulatory policies related to computer systems validation.
  • Computer system design knowledge.
  • Highly motivated with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to adhere to quality standards in a professional and safe manner.
  • Ability to follow instructions and prioritize work activities effectively.
  • Attention to detail with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
