PHYSICIAN SURGERYSITE OF SERVICE:

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
  • Accreditation: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Internship/Residency: Must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Board Certification: Board Certified

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • License: Current license to practice medicine in any state, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia).
  • Experience: 2 years of experience
: Shall be a U.S. citizen.
  • English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
  • Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
  • Training: Electronic Health Record educational trainings completed annually
  • Liability Insurance: The Federal Tort Claims Act does not cover Contractor or Contractor’s physician(s). When a Contractor or Contractor’s physician(s) has been identified as a provider in a tort claim, the Contractor shall be responsible for notifying their legal counsel and/or insurance carrier
DUTIES:
  • Exchange of information on factors facilitating the achievement of optimal medical outcomes and on barriers to the achievement of optimal medical outcomes.???Participating in and supporting evidence- based practice. Provides medical care to all patient admitted to the SCI/D System of Care including those at the inpatient, outpatient and home care settings.
  • Responsible to providing comprehensive medical recommendations for those patients consult to the Service but who are not part of the SCI/D System of Care and collaborate with physicians performing acute medical services.
  • While practicing in VHA facilities physicians will follow manufacturer's recommendations for use of RME (reusable medical equipment) and all infection control guidelines as they relate to the use of the equipment.
  • Works well with health care and subspecialty care providers from other disciplines and consults with specialty services when indicated through the primary care provider, or with notification of the primary care provider.
  • Maintains own professional qualifications, participates in customer service training, computer training, attends mandated medical center training activities as required and provides resident supervision as directed.
  • Expected to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others.
  • Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life.
  • Ensure practice-based learning and improvement, practitioners are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
  • Expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
  • Ensures a quality and effective educational and training program for health professions - students, interns and residents is in place to enhance the quality of care provided to Veteran patients within the VA Caribbean Healthcare System.
  • Enables and supports staff participation in research activities that interface with health care systems, patients and health care specifically quality, access, patient outcomes and health care costs.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area (s). The individual must demonstrate the knowledge, or the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to provide care based upon age related factors.
HOURS:Works hours to include: 07:00 AM – 03:30 PMSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLSMust be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential.
