- Leading the team of nurses and student nurses in our summer camp health center
- Supervise (in concert with camp directors) the emergency and daily health care to all campers and staff
- Supervise / give medical care as needed.
- Oversee proper medication administration and documentation
- Ensure proper implementation of standing orders
- Oversee the coordination of telehealth visits and doctor visits as needed
- Supervise and ensure the proper record keeping including reviewing, updating and maintaining charts and records on paper and begin exploring the use of CampMinder as an EMR.
- Oversee the coordination of transporting campers or staff to the nearest appropriate medical facility for non-life threatening emergencies. This includes: transporting campers to medical and dental appointments and make occasional trips to pick up prescriptions, medical equipment and supplies
- Approach Cobbossee with a public health mindset to keep the community healthy especially with cases of norovirus or other transmissible sickness
- Oversee, with the assistant director, the management of receipts and ensuring charges for camper medications are being given to the accountant to be charged back to families
- Create and manage a rotating schedule for nurses and the on call shifts during the night (this position is in the rotation, as well)
- Execute prompt, respectful, and precise parent and family communications, health center operations, and management of health center staff. Collaborate with the director team when appropriate or emergent.
- Ensure skilled performance of procedures by nursing staff as appropriate including but not limited to medication administration, injections, etc
- Teach nurses and students nurses how to assess and triage campers and staff coming in during sick call while also assisting in this process
- Provide and manage the communication with campers' families and physicians as needed.
- Develop, manage, and maintain the relationship with our main pharmacy that mails us camper medication and the system in which they are kept.
- Coordinating the pickup of medications from local pharmacies for medications needed sporadically throughout the summer.
- Communicate with different residential life teams and staff on the medical needs and medications of their campers
- Oversee the preparation and packing of medications for camper day trips and overnight trips.
- Laundry duties as needed for persons admitted to the health center for illness and observation
- Share the duties to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the health center.
- Oversee the preseason set-up and the postseason closing of the Health Center, which includes performing an opening/closing inventory of all supplies and equipment and ordering supplies/equipment as needed and approved
- Development and continuous updating of all medical policies and procedures including management of injuries and new illnesses.
- Ensure confidentiality of camper and staff medical information and records.
- Ensure compliance and proper reporting to all appropriate local, state, and federal agencies
- Ensure the medical facility meets and maintains compliance with all applicable regulations and standards of the State of Maine and the American Camping Association.
- Maintain compliance with all federal and state regulations regarding the use of narcotics and restricted medications.
- Maintain medical supplies and equipment including, weekly inventories, placing orders, stocking, and maintaining supply contacts, all while staying on budget.
- Providing training to medical staff on health center protocols for a 10 day orientation
- Registered Nurse Certification required with at least 6 years experience
- Record of successful leadership and management in a medical environment and/or experience in a medical environment as a RN with a record of successful leadership in a different environment.
- Current State of Maine nursing license, or current compact license certification. Camp can provide help with the transference of license.
- Pediatric or ER experience of 5 years or more required
- Current and valid driver's license, and capable driver able to transport children.
- Certification in First Aid & CPR
- Physical ability to lift/assist campers and staff for treatment.
- Able to execute nursing duties in a varied, indoor-outdoor environment, including negotiating uneven outdoor ground and some medium lifting (25 lbs).
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work with and manage different personalities
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent clinical skills for working independently with pediatric and adult patients
- Confidence in delivering routine and emergency care in a camp setting
- Excellent documentation and communication skills for campers, parents, and staff
- Show respect for all races, classes, creeds, and backgrounds, and sexual orientations
- Ability to learn CampMinder (our online content management system)
- Ability to deal with problems involving complex situations, and understanding of HIPAA compliance and mandatory reporting
- Close attention to detail for accuracy and thoroughness in completing work
- Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor healthcare, maintain records, implement a health plan
- Ability to make decisions and take initiative
- Ability to observe, assess, and correct unsanitary or unhealthy conditions of camp
- Ability to keep neat and orderly records and charts
